OUR STORY
Cie shefroyan is a dance company directed by Shelly Ohene-Nyako and co-direct by Marion Cherix. Involving creation, research, workshops and collaborations with different arts and crafts related to the body.
In 2023 the company obtains its first public financial support from Pro helevetia for a research project in Kenya as part of the dance fest festival. The project "She who moves" was born after 10 days of residence with local women. The research focused on the place of women artists in Kenyan society. In 2024 the company obtained a second fund for a tandem collaboration with Cie Babacar Mané, a Senegalese company. The collaboration creates the duo Racines de vies, a play that talks about the consciousness and unconscious of the human being, inspired by astrology and the Yin and Yang theory. The company Cie shefroyan aims to create dance pieces and exchanges between the different scenic disciplines on social themes. The company likes to create bridges between the arts and the continents from different disciplines all rooted in a conscious approach: dance, yoga, spiritual modalities, etc. Our interest is to craft our work with unfortunate groups within society.
One of the interest of Cie shefroyan is to build a company, where art disciplines are taught to give opportunities to the future generations of Africa and its diaspora . By having residences & exchanges with other artists from other countries or continents who have opportunities within these areas, bringing more opportunity and education around health and well-being to communities that this is not currently accessible to.

She uses
dance as an expression to address topics such as the place of women artists in Africa, the influence of stereotypes and the work of consciousness and the unconsciousness of our place in our societies. After graduating as a dancer in July 2017, Shelly was hired as an interpreter in two Swiss companies: Cie Uma Danse (see the videos of her choreographer Luanda Mori) and Neopost Foofwa.
She gained experience in creation and performance, and found through these activities an interest in ancestral methods, a personal language, and a commitment to societal issues. In 2018, Shelly was based in Ghana and then in 2022 in Senegal, she lived 5 years in total in her father's continent, living from her art through creation, giving classical dance classes for children and contemporary dance,
